Best Places to Buy Engagement Rings in Denver, Colorado

Denver has lots of options when it comes to engagement ring shopping, but I’ve combed through them and put together a curated list of Denver’s favorite engagement ring stores!

Should I shop online or in-store?

When it comes to buying an engagement ring, there are lots of options these days!

There are plenty of traditional jewelry stores, newer types of in person buying experiences, and now it is becoming more and more common to buy online.

You may even choose a combination of these, starting your search online or in-store, and then making your final purchase in the opposite.

There are pros and cons to each and you’ll have to choose what is right for you, but we’ll dive a little deeper into each option!

Why shop at an engagement ring store?

Although buying engagement rings online has become increasingly common these days, there is something to be said for the in-person experience you get at a reputable jewelry store.

You can actually see the rings in person and get a tactile feel for what you want. You can ask questions and learn about what goes into picking the right engagement ring.

How do you know what type of metal will be best for you? What the heck are cut, carat, color, and clarity, and which ones are actually important? These are all common questions that your store sales person can gladly help you with.

Not to mention the excitement of actually looking through the options and coming home that day with the perfect one you know will make your partner smile from ear to ear!

Why shop for an engagement ring online?

As I mentioned, online engagement ring shopping is becoming increasingly common, for a number of reasons.

Some buyers have the perception (sometimes true, sometimes not) that they might be pressured by sales staff in store, and they can completely avoid that by shopping online.

Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy jewelry online, although this is not always the case. In theory, online stores don’t have the overhead that in person stores have and should be able to sell the jewelry for less. Also, it’s a lot easier to comparison shop online and compare prices from one store to another.

Another benefit of shopping online is that you can do it on your own time. If you’re having trouble sneaking away from your partner to go to a store, you can learn about diamonds and shop online in the middle of the night in your pajamas.

Where to shop online

If you’re going to shop online, you want to find a reputable seller, just as you would for in person shopping.

Simon G is a popular jewelry retailer with lots of great options online for more traditional engagement rings. You can also get 10% off your first order with Simon G jewelry by using this link!

I also highly recommend Gemvara who is a newer retailer but they have a completely different approach to shopping online. You design your entire ring, starting with the main stone. You actually choose the individual stone (diamond or otherwise) you want and you can filter by things like cut, clarity, color, price, and carat. It is a really unique way to shop and create something specific for what you want.

If you’re not looking for a traditional diamond, but instead want a more affordable option, check out Welry, which has gemstone (non-diamond) engagement rings. These are typically much more reasonably priced than diamonds.

What to look for in an engagement ring store

When considering an engagement ring stores there are a few factors that come into play that can make or break your experience:

  • Customer service
  • Reputable store
  • Good selection
  • Sustainable sourcing options
  • Post sale services (For example, can you return for routine cleanings? What is the return policy? Do they perform repairs in-house or ship them out?)

And while these things are definitely important, they are also pretty generic.

So what specifically did I consider when choosing the stores in this list?

How I chose the jewelers on this list!

Well, I started by scouring the internet. I looked for any and all sources of information that I could find indicating people’s preferred jewelry stores in the Denver area.

I looked at local magazine 5280’s Top of the Town Readers’ Choice and Editors’ Choice picks for jewelers over the past five years.

I also looked at how often people searched on Google (using a proprietary database I have a subscription to) for these stores, giving me an indication of their popularity.

And finally, I looked at the Google reviews and websites of the top contenders to get an idea of what the experience would be like with each of these stores. I only included those with very high review ratings.

After all this research, I feel very confident in the final five chosen here!

Please note: This list is in no particular order, and the stores I chose in no way sponsored or affected what was written in this post!

Sarah O. Jewelry

Sarah is a local business owner offering both unique and classic engagement rings. She also offers one-of-a-kind custom rings where you can use either heirloom stones or create something completely new!

Sarah gained her passion from growing up and working alongside her mother who owned a jewelry store in New Mexico. The Diamond Reserve

The Diamond Reserve is a little different than other retailers–think of it more like a personalized, private one-on-one shopping experience! They operate by appointment only in a unique office space. If you’re shopping with your partner, it will definitely impress!

Rather than just picking out a pre-made ring, you’ll pick your stone and The Diamond Reserve will help guide you through the process of designing and choosing your setting. During the process Kaeleigh and her staff will educate you on diamond buying and help you feel confident in your choices!

The Diamond Reserve was voted best in Denver in 5280’s 2020 Top of the Town and is very highly rated by Google reviewers.

John Atencio

John Atencio can be shopped at like a traditional jewelry store, but offers the same level of care as custom designers, designing each engagement ring around the center stone. Each design is hand-sketched and offers more unique options than you’ll find at large retailers.

John is a native of Colorado, which shows in his choice to use only recycled gold and responsibly sourced gemstones. He has been serving Colorado since 1976 when their first store opened near CSU in Fort Collins.

Now there are six stores across Colorado to shop at, including two in Denver, Lone Tree, Broomfield, Fort Collins, and Boulder. Or you can also shop online on their website here.

Williams Jewelers

If you’re looking for a more traditional jewelry store, Williams Jewelers is a trusted choice in Denver. They have been serving the area since 1973 and have a showroom in addition to offering private appointments.

They have a very large diamond selection to choose from and offer custom design options. They also train their staff extensively so they can work with each customer to understand their needs and educate buyers on what to look for when purchasing diamonds. Their level of service has resulted in very high ratings on their Google reviews.

Abby Sparks Jewelers

Abby Sparks is another local jeweler, and all their jewelry is handmade and custom designed in Denver. They are by appointment only and don’t offer pre-made inventory, but rather work with each customer individually to create something you will love.

Another cool thing about Abby Sparks? They offer a “loaner ring” that you can propose with. It’s made with a cubic zirconia solitaire, and the cost of the loaner is essentially a deposit for the real ring you eventually purchase. If you are ready to propose but are not sure what type of ring your partner will love, this is a great option!

Abby Sparks has been voted Top of the Town by both readers and editors several times over the past five years and has great reviews on Google.
